The practice of discharging old workmen, which has become inoro general in consequence of the Workmen's Compensation Acts, was discussed. It was decided to advocate legislation for the compulsory insurance of workers in a State fund. Mr 1). J. Shackleton, M.P., an-,, novtneed that the Home Secretary, Mr Herbert Gladstone, intended to propose in the autumn session that a Royal Commission should be appointed to inquire into this subject.
