♦ BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS. By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. ST. PETERSBURG. Sept. 11. Count Leo Tolstoi spent a quiet birthday with his family and intimates. Ho was greatly touched by tho worldwide greetings ho received. [Tolstoi's eightieth birthday according to "Who's Who," falls on August 28. Apparently the Russian calendar differs from the English. Among the messages sent to him was this telegram from Wellington: "Very hearty congratulations. — Russian proletariat, New Zealand."]
