"DAFFODIL AT HOME."

; -^ Despite the unfavourable weather the "Daffodil At Home" held in the Whito- \ ley Hall yesterday afternoon and even- ■ ing was well attended. There was a magnificent collection of blooms. -Mr ; J. it.* Duncan, of the Exotic Nursery, '. Westown,'had a large exhibit of daffodils, including a lovely display of the Princeps variety, also some very fine blooms of Empress, Mrs W. Ware, Sir Watkin, Leedsii, and others. Upwards of 1000 daffodil blooms were shown by this exhibitor alone. There were in I addition anemones, frezias, violets.(in1 eluding white, fed, mottled, mauye), 1 and a few choice . native flowering I shrubs. The Morshead Nursery Com- ; pany had an exceptionally fine show of camelias, particularly in scarlet, a fine spike of Cavendishii -heath, choice vio- ' lets, Baronia, anemones of the St. Bridget, Giant French, and Do Caens varieties, and a collection of daffodils. 1 Messrs Frethey and Gibson, of Frankleigh.Park, had large exhibits of daffodils. Many of the blooms were perfect in shape and colour. Mrs Brash and Mrs Vicary each had a nico collection of flowers. Mr T. G. Sole exhibited a rare asparagus. The decorated tables, mantels, and baskets were very attractive, being, most artistically designed. Mrs Staridish, Mrs Clem. Web-i ster, and Mrs Harry Fookes officiated as judges. The children's buttonhole competition created a great deal of interest among the young folk, twentyfive buttonholes being judged. During the afternoon— a musical programme arranged by Miss Douglas wais rendered, and in the evening the Whiteley Orchestra contributed a number of selections under the conductorship of Mr Lawn. The refreshment room was presided over by the following ladies : — Misses Catran, liawson, Black, I. Okey, R. Okey, W. Sole, A. Sole, Lewis, N. Okey, T. ( Okey, Carter, Oxenham, A. Avann, West, and Buckman.
