BIG INCREASE THIS YEAR. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. The amounts Secured by mortgages under the Land Transfer Act in the Dominion on March 31, 1908, was no (less than £65,453,940, as. compared with £59,097,070 on the corresponding dat© of 1907. The figures for the various districts are as follows (not including shillings and pehce): — Auckland £5,889,121 Taranaki 5,255,925 Wellington :.. 19,970,037 Hawkers Bay 6,776,496 Poverty Bay L 427 * 6 ?* Nelson 1.. 1,471,582 Marlborough -.. 863,395 Canterbury 14,307,471 Otago ....: 4,134,199 Southland i.. 5,139,087 Westland *. 218,998 It is interesting to note that, as compared with 1907, Taranaki shows an Increase of £639,600, . Wellington an increase of £2,538,604, Poverty Bay. an increase of over a quarter of a million, Otago an increase of well over a quarter of a million, and Westland pf over £55,000. Southland's amount decreased by just over £20,000.
