TASMANIAN BUDGET.

- By Electric Telegraph,—^Copyright. HOBART. Sept. 10. The Treasurer's Budget statement shows the r4venue for the current year to have been £1,004,000, which is £71,500 above the estimate. The* expenditure was £912,377. The estimated revenue next year is £958,879, and the -expenditure £946,000, but owing to the expected fallingroff of the amount returned by the Commonwealth, it is 3s-r timated there will be ,c deficit of £.24,000. In order to tieet the reduced Commonwealth return 'increased direct taxation in the shape of land and income taxes is proposed. . The Government's programme for the year includes free education.
