(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON/Sept. 10. MAINTENANCE OF ELTHAM ROAD. ' The Local Bills Committee of the House has made several amendments .in the Waimate County Bill. One new provision is that, bo long as Opunake remains unconnected by a li,ne of railway open for traffic with the present line of railways between. New Plymouth and Wellington, the Waimate North County Council shall pay to the Eltham County the sum of £100 in October of every -year- to be expended in maintaining that part, of the. Eltham Road which is' within the Kaponga Riding of the Eltham County. SECRET COMMISSIONS. V The extension of Commerce Committee has made no amendments in the Secret Commissions Bill and recommends that it be allowed -to proceed. PtJBLIC HOLIDAYS. Some important amendments have been made by the Extension of Commerce Committee in the Public Holidays Bill, brought down by the Prime Minister. ' It proposed to concel the holiday on the Prince of Wales Birthday and to substitute Empire Day and to add Dominion Day (September 26). In regard to certain bank holidays the Bill provides that where any such holiday falls on a day other than a. Monday the holiday' shall be observed or the following Monday. The Committee proposes further that if tho following Monday is t also, a Bank holiday, the next following day which is not a Bant holiday shall be observed as such.
