NEW STEAMER SERVICE.

BETWEEN BRITAIN AND QUEENSLAND. THE TORREg STRAIT ROUTE. By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. (Received Sept. 11, 8.10 a.m.) LONDON, Sept., 10^ Before, his departure from England Mr W.,H. Kidston, Premier of Queensand, completed an arrangement with pie British-India Steamship Company ror a steamer service to- Queensland via < Forres Strait. , The company receives a subsidy of £37,000 a year. It will \ provide a bhirty-fivo days' service between Lonion and Thursday Island. Steamers ivill run monthly, commencing in -'October next. T,hey will call at Cairns, Fownsville, Port Aiwa, and "any other port which offers 150 tons of cargo. Fhe return to England will, be via the Dape. Uniform freight sates will be charged From all the Queensland ports. The steamers engaged in the service will be of 5500 tons register. ,.
