There was a severe tight between the Turkey Creek murderers and tho punitive expedition. The natrves fought very bravely. Between 100 and 200 shots were exchanged before tho murderers were killed. Tho ringleader, Major, used three rifles and two revolvers, his gin standing by his side and loading the weapons. Tho gin was shot in the chest. Tho gins state that the men were on • their way to murder another white man when they were overtaken by the police.
