APARIMA' S ROUND-THE-WORLD TRIP.

The Union Company's big steamer Aparima, which arrived at Wellington on Monday from Calcutta, via intermediate ports* has jus* completed a round-the-world voyage, after an absence of about a year from New Zealand. The Aparima went from Auckland to Sydney and thence to Newcastle to load coal for Fiji. Then she loaded sugar at five Fijian ports for Vancouver. She went from Vancouver in ballast to Tacoma, Washington, U.S.A., where a cargo, of wheat was loaded for Hamburg. ' The Aparima proceeded from Tacoma to Comox, British Columbia, for bunker coal, and then journeyed round South Amerca, via the Straits of Magellan, calling at Monte Video and Teneriffe. At Hamburg tho Vessel stayed about three weeks, after which she went in ballast to Glasgow. The Aparima then loaded a general cargo at Glasgow, Cardiff, and London, for Indian ports. The voyage Eastward was made via Suez, and the cargo was discharged at Karachi, Bombay, Madras, and Calcutta. The vessel then loaded at Calcutta for New Zealand ports, and called at Singapore and Samarang en route to Auckland. The round-the-world voyage included engagements under two separate charters, ono comprising the carriage of wheat to Hamburg, and the qtner the loading at Glasgow and English ports for India. The voyago proved an enioyablo one to tho officers. Only one mishap was experienced. This was at Calcutta, whon the chief officer, Vfr Vint, fell down one of the holds. He was removed to a hospital for treatment.

The Rotoiti brought 130 bags of sugar and 54 tons of general cargo from Onehunga this morning. The Takapuna brought from tho South this morning 175 tons of general merchandise, including transhipments ex Jeanara, from New York; Kaipara and Cevic, from London; Apanma, from Singapore and Calcutta ; Maori and Pateena, from Lyttelton, Monowai and Koonya, from Dunedin, and Waikaro from Napier*

The Mayor of Nelson, at a Council meeting recently, stated that the captain of H.M.S. Encounter had told him that in a fog the northern dial of the Post Office might be mistaken for the lighthouse light. The pilot, tho Mayor added, had told him the same thing. They did not want to have a shipwreck at Nelson, and the Mayor therefore moved that the Post Office authorities bo requested to obscure the northern dial of the clock at night. The motion was carried. The following report, indicating a shipping mystery, has been made by the Sub-collector of Customs at Broome (W.A.) to the Collector at Perth: — "Captain H. Hilliard, in charge of the Dutch vessel Concordia, now trading' in the beehe-de-mer fishing industry, near Imperieuse Reef, has reported ] that there are indications of a vessel I having been on Imperieuse Reef some time between November 18 and March 18. She appears to have been stuck on the west side of the reef, where everything was taken out of her, and she was evidently then floated into the lagoon, and afterwards worked out through the passage by sticking up oars on eaeli side. On one oar was a woman's petticoat, and on the other the British ensign. They left a kedge anchor and a six-inch Manila rope, also some wire rope, all of which had been used for kedging the vessel out through the passage.
