TARIKI
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
September 7. — A successful social was held on the 3rd inst. in aid of tho Roberts' Fund, over £10 being made by the sale of tickets and door takings. Mr JJ. Stratford presided, and Mr Koss Stratford acted as M.C. for the dancing. "The Gipsy's Warning," sung by Mrs Earl and Miss Walker, with a" chorus of picturesquely-attired gipsies, was a very pleasing item. The Tariki Glee Club', strengthened by the addition of Mr and Mrs Rudkin, was in excellent form, and items in the musical programme were most popular. Mrs Rudkin and Miss Stratford sang a pretty duet, and Mr R. Hancock contributed a fine bass song. A pleasant feature of the evening's entertainment was the phonograph provided by Mr Sims, a number of vocal and orchestral selections being given. Ml G. Simons met with an accident on the 4th inst., when getting a horse into the forge. The animal reared and knocked Mm down with his front feet. Fortunately . though badly bruised, Mr Simons did not receive such severe injury as might have been expected. Mr Valentine's house on the Rugby Hoad was burned to the ground on the night of the 4th inst. The cause of the fire is unknown.
Mr C. Cartwright, who recently met with h. nasty accident while felling bush on Mr W. Smith's farm, is progressing favourably.
