Per Associatibn. \ PALMERSTON N., Sept. 8. At the Supreme. Court, J. Whitty^ with several aliases, was sentenced' to four years' imprisonment for forgery at Shannon. Thomas McQuinn, charged with horse-stealing at Danuevirke, received six months' imprisonment.
t At the Palmerston Supreme Court to-day, the Grand Jury returned a true bill against 'Mrs Xetitia Broad, charged with abandoning a child at Wanganui. Her trial is proceeding.— Press telegram. Louis Becke, author and traveller, arrived at Wellington by the lonic today en route to the South Sea Islands. Mr Becke informed a Post reporter that, on behalf of the Royal Geographical Societies irr, London and Berlin and the Anthropological Societies of the same cities, ho is ta investigate and get phonographic records of folk songs and the lore of %he South ,§ea Islanders.— Press telegram.
