ENTERTAINMENTS.

"HUMPTY DUMPTY."

Next Friday evening J. C. Williamson's pantomime, "Humpty Dumpty will make its only appearance in New Plunouth. The extravaganza is heraldcur as a wonderful medley of bright colours, catchy music, lively dancing and mirth-moving quips. For three months in Sydney and throe months in Melbourne it" commanded largo audiences. Among tho songs of "Humpty Dumpty" is "Tho Regimental Pot," a dashiiijj, number sung by the principal boy (Miss Mabello Morgan), who is accompanied by a full marching chorus. Miss Morgan also has a languorous coon song into which a picturesque "surprise" effect is introduced. "Moonbeams," sung by Miss Irene Dillon, is another dreamy number, and the singer rouses herself at tho end of each verso and does a whirlwind dance to an accelerated tempo of the refrain. A comic number is a duet between the King and Queen in the diving bell. A burlesque of the startling sounds of a motor car is quaintly incorporated into it. "When T was in the chorus of the Caiety" is Mr Loydall's best contribution. Ho appears as a ballot girl supported by the chorus and tells of tho conquests made in pit and stalls. Mr Bert Gilbert has several amusing numbers, one being a smart parody. The imitations of popular artists by Miss Olga Grey are also a bright vocal feature.* The box plan for the only performance will open at tho Dresden to-morrow morning.

Mr W. T. Hookham, "The Cash Clothier," is now making a special display of Phitzwell suits which are obtainable only from him. Made in fancy worsteds and light summer tweeds, the brown, green, and grey effects make a nice selection. We are informed that these suits are carefully tailored. They have the close fitting collar and improved shoulders. A nice range of men's narrow rimmed straw boaters with various coloured bands complete a striking window display. Messrs Ambury Bros, have a replace advertisement in another column referring to their show of spfing and summer goods which commences tomorrow (Tuesday). The Midhirst Co-operative Dairy Company requires a butter-maker. The Deputy Official Assignee, Dannevirke, notifies a meeting of creditors in the bangrupt estate of .John James Patterson. The winning names for the August "Wyandotte" Limerick Competitions are published elsewhere. The Limerick which gained the £3 prize is also given. Cash prizes amounting to £5 are given each month. Tenders are invited in this issue by Messrs L. Pattie and Co. for the lease of 500 acres, known as Stanhope's, on Main South Road, near Oakura. The* property is situated quarter of a mile from creamery and two miles from factory. \ At St. Joseph's School Social this evening four iprizes will be presented for the euchre tournament. The floor is said to be in good order for the dancing, which will be carried on until 1 a.m. Jersey fanciers and dairymen wishing to improve the quality of their herds, should Require no reminder of the sale of Mr C. Clarke's pedigree stock to be held at Corbett Road on Wednesday next. Mr Clarke has spared no expense in the* purchase of the very best stock procurable in New Zealand, and his enterprise has been*amply rewarded in the Show ring, he having been a most successful exhibitor at the principal Shows* of the North Island and a competitpr with all the leading Jersey breeders. All his stock is bred on the most approved lines for milk and but-ter-fat production, and the stock which is to be submitted on Wednesday comprises very choice and well-bred animals. Messrs Morey and Son's first spring show of novelties opens to-morrow at their own store and in the shop opposite. An advertisement appears in this issue.
