PUNIWHAKAU.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

September 4. — Owing to the very stormy evening the social in aid of the hall funds was not largely # attended. Those who . did venture out enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

Our now settlers, Mr Hodgkinson and family, arrived here this week. Some of the family, I believe, aro recent arrivals frojn the Old Country. Mr Barclay's sulft on Wednesday was well attended, and he obtained good prices for his stock. Tho grass is shooting ahead now, and stock is sure, to advance in price. So far we have had a splendid winter, and tho roads have boon in fairly good condition all through — that is, as good as earth roads can be. Mr McMillan lms just mnde a suspension bridge over the river near his house* for the purpose of working tho back of his farm with n minimum legache.

The creamery is expected to open tho season during the present month.

Land agents still visit Puniwhaknu, n spite of the fact that we have a 'cage" instead of a bridge.
