OBITUARY.

The Auckland Star records tho death i on Saturday morning, at the ago of 84 years, of Mrs Philson, widow of the late Dr. Philson. The deceased lady was tho daughter of Captain Anderson, R.N., who was a junior officer on H.M.S. Victory, and was present with Nelson at the battles of the Nile and Trafalgar. Mrs Philson was a native of Devonshire and married Dr Philson in 1844. accompanying her husband to New Zealand in tho following year. The late Mrs. McKoy, who was buried in St. Mary's churchyard yosterday. oamo to New Plymouth with her father, Mr. James Oliver, and family by tho Amelia Thompson, arriving here on September 3rd, 1841. Sho was born in Devonshire in 1826, anil was therefore 82 years of ajxe. For' seven years sho was in. the service of the late Captain King, and it was wh'le a member of his household that sho made the first cheese manulaotured in Taranaki and also the first barrel of salt butter exported from tho province. Afterwards she was lady's maid to Mrs. Page, wito of Captain Pago, of tho Imperial Army, and while in that capacity she assisted in dressing throe ladies for what was probably the fnrst fancy dress ball ever hold in Auckland. Returning to Taranaki, sho married, about 1850, Mr. P. McKoy, of the 58th Regiment, who was a comrade in arms of Colonel Stapp. During the first Maori war, Mrs. McKoy went with many other refugees to Nelson. In 1867 she went with hea* husband to Tikorangi, whore he had been awarded a grant of laud as a military settler, and there they resided until Mr. McKov cJipcl on A»gu*t 30th, 1895. Mrs. McKoy then lived in Waitara for about a year, afterwards coming to New Plymouth, where she has resided ever since with her oldest daughter. Mrs. MeGonagle. Jury, of New Plymouth, Mrs. T. G. Billing, of Rahotu, Mrs. C. Crocker, of Auckland, Miss Ada McKoy and Mrs. Feltham, of Duuedin.
