By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright. ' LONDON, Sept, 4. Lord Sackville, formerly British Ambassador at Washington, is dead. Another death announced to-day is that of Mr. Thomas Cairns, M.P. for Newcastle-on-Tyne. - [Lord Sackville was 81 years old. t%o was appointed to the diplomatic service in his twenty-first year, in 384/, and subsequently held positions in the Embassy at Paris v - He became- Ambassador at BuMios Ayres in- 18/2, and j was afterwartbs appointed to similar positions at Madrid and Washington. He retired in IsBB when he, succeeded I to his title. He leaves lin heir, Mr. I Lionel E. SackviUe-West. Mr. Thomas ! Cairns* the late member for Newcastle, | was a partner in the, shipowners firm ( of Cairns, Noble- and Co. He was the ; pioneer promoter Newcastle s electric ( tramway system and an advocate ot bousing* reform.] . \
