In winning the A»scot Stakes, a handicap of £1640, at Ascot (Eng.) in June, Turbine, a five-year-old son of Speed, was credited with cutting out two miles in 3 niin. 22 3-ssec. _The provious English best was 3min. 25 1-5 sec. Australian sportsmen who are inclined to think that since the death ot Mr G. G. Stead the biggest individual owners of racehorses are in the Commonwealth will be rather surprised to learn that it is not quite so, for the Hon. J. D. Ormond, of New Zealand, is easily entitled to first place. That gentleman, for whom S. Waddell and Woods train, has such aged horses in training as Zimmerman, Marty rium, North Head, Nogi, Sir Tristram, Andu, and Kiaroma, and- the four-year-olds Oxton, Dawn, North Pole, and Woodley. In themselves they arc a pretty bti-ong collection, but there are also such three-year-olds as St. Aiden, Diamond Star,' Contendery, Mircast, Pelhcole, Bollin, and Simon, and the two-vcar-okls Fiddler, Xylophone, Idealism, Stourton, Day Beam, Elfish, Rialto. Mollington, and Ideate. In addition to all these, Nappcr, Negative, Dead* less Ortygier, and Excelsa are being handled/and for tho most part they are by Birkenhead* It will, therefore, be conceded that the Hon. Mr Orniond occupies the distinction of being the biggest owner in the Southern Hemisphere. _
