OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) August 16. — Tho Bowlers' Ball, held on Wednesday last, was a tremendous success. The hall presented an appearance as of fairyland. The walls were almost hidden by greenery, among which tiny lights twinkled like glowworms. The decorating was carried out by Mr. Dos Forges, who is undoubtedly an expert. The stage was very nicely arranged as a card-room. This part of the decorations was in the hands of Mrs. Burton, Mho succeeded t admirably in her task. The floor was in splendid order, and the music was o:cceflent. During the evening two presentations were made. The first was that of a gold medal, to Mr. W. p. Dudley, who won the championship.' The second Was a pair of bowls to MrJ Macfie, on© of the Club's oldest members and a true sport. The total takings amounted to about £50. I understand that a volunteer instruction class is to be held hero shortly, ' The Building^ Committee of the local Presbyterian Chiffch has accepted the tender of Messrs, Browne and Forbes. of Stratford, for the construction oi the' manse. ' v After several days of beautiful weather the wind is again blowing keenly. We are not Haying so much rain as is usual at this time of the year. Perhaps we may get a decently dry spring for once.
