CHRISTCHURCH, August 12.

At the Addington live stock market to-tday there were small entries of stock and an equally small attendance at the yards. Fat cattle and fat lambs sold at about the previous week's prices. Fat sheep were rather easier. Pigs met with a good sale. A few lines of breeding ewes, mostly good sorts, and odd lots of hoggets and wethers, formed the e.ntry of store sheep. There was an improvement in the demand, and a clearance was ef-* fected at prices that showed a. little improvement in the cases of the better classes of sheep. Two-tooth ewes made j up to 17s 6d, young ewes of mixed ages to 18s 2d, down ewes to 14s lOd, best hoggets to 13s 3d, half-bred wether hoggets Us 9d tff 12s 6d. The first line of ewes with lambs for this season were offered and failed to find" a buyer at the reserve put upon them, though the lambs were a well-grown and healthy lot. Fat Lambs. — There were about a dozen kits of fat lambs penned, and they met with good competition up to late rates, prices ranging from 12s to 16s Bd, and a few up to 18s. Fat Sheep. — There was a small yarding of fat sheep. Butchers having' bought heavily the week before, the demand was slack, and prices for wethers were rather easier. Extra prime wethers 24s 9d to 365, prime 18s 6d to 22s 6d, others 16s to 18s, extra prime ewes 225, prime 17s to 20s, medium 14s to 16s 6d, aged and light lls to- 13s 6d, merino wethers 14s 9d. Fat Cattle. — The yarding of fat cattle totalled 237, and the quality, though good, was not up to the level of the previous week. Prices were irregular, but very little change in values took place. Best 'steer beef made 24s to 28s, medium 21s 6d to 23s 6d, cow and inferior 18s to 21s» Steers brought £7 to £11 17s 6d, heifers £4 17s 6d to £10 ss, cows £4 10s to £8 15s. Store and Dairy Cattle. — There was an active demand for store cattle. Twoyear steers made £2 10s, two-year heifers £2 2s to £2 4s, three-year heifers £3 Bs, dry cows 17s 6d to £4 2s 6d. Dairy cows sold at £3 10s to £8. Pigs.— Pigs were entered in limited numbers and met with a good sale. Choppers brought £4, porkers to 48s (equal to 53d per lb). No baconers were penned. Large stores made 35s to 425, medium 255. to 30s, weaners 14s to 18s.
