AUCKLAND, August 14. James Alwin Smith appeared at the Supreme Court to answer a charge of forgery of jpostal < notes: After nearing the. evidence for the prosecution, Judge Edwards discounted the evidence of the experts as to handwriting, ( and said he would not hang a dog on such evidence. The jury, without retiring, returned a verdict oorf r not guilty. Accused was discharged. A similar case against William Wayward Cummins was also dismissed, without hearing of the evidence, which was the same as in the previous ca^se. .
