TESTIMONIAL TO MRS. DOCKRILL.

A PUBLIC MEETING.

There was a representative {gathering at tho Town Hall yesterday afternoon when a meeting was held to consider proposals for publicly recognising the man i told services Mrs Dockrill has rendered to the town while she has held the position of Mayoress. Mr C. E. Bellringer, convener, presided. He explained that, after consult ing with many Others who held , the same opinion that he did, that it would be a reflection on the town if the vahiable services of Mrs Dockrill as Mayoress were allowed to pass without public recognition, he had called that meeting so that the burgc-.«e*, as a whole might have an opportunity of showing their esteem. He was sure they were all grateful to Mrs Dockrill for what she had done and were all of one mind that it was the right thing to do to publicly recognise those services. Ho announced apologies for absence from Mrs Standish, Mrs E. M. Smith, Mrs O'Driscoll, Messrs \V. (i. Malone, J. Elliott, J. Paton, and W. A. Collitf. Mr G. Tisch endorsed the remarks of the Chairman. Mrs Dockrill, he said, had always willingly come forward to assist in any movement. He moved that some public '^recognrfcion should be made of the services of Ifeirs Dockrill as Mayoress.

Mr MacDiarmid seconded. He said Mrs Dockrill had been a most active and energetic worker in everything she had taken in hand. ' The motion was carried.

He felt confident the movement would ho taken up enthusiastically and brought to a successful isfciie. Mr A. Weller asked if the movement was to lie confined to the town. Mrs Dockrill had rendered great nssistanee to undertakings in the suburbs and they would like to join in the movement.

The Chairman said it was not intended to confine the movement merely to the Borough. It was unanimously resolved to open a subscription list. The following executive was appointed: — Chairman, Mr C. E. Bellringrri; .secretary, Mr A. Humphries; treasurer, Mr N. K. McDiamiid ; committee, Mcsdames Richards. Jury, Clarke, H. Okc\v, b\ C. Griffiths, PJvnns, and Messrs Coilis find Nieholls.
