* DUNEDIN, April 13. At Balclutha to-day a deputation waited on the Hon. R. McNab with a request that the Government should acquire the Clifton and Otanomomo estates for closer settlement. The former estate comprises 15,675 acres, and the latter 5460 acres. The deputation stated that Clifton would settle 70 to 80 farmers, while Otanomomo would provide land for about 36. The Minister admitted there was a very keen domand for land *in the south. He said the chairman of the Land Purchase Board was now in the South Island looking at a number of properties under offer. He would communicate with him at once, and get him to view Clifton estate.
