• MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(From, Our Own. Correspondent.) Aprii 1.3. — TlTe monthly sitting of the S.M. Court was held to-day before Mr Turnbull. ,..., Judgment went by default m the case of 11. Shotlander v. Cris Dixon,, £6 (costs £l 3/6). . ' / In the defended case of A. Flintoff v. A. Frankly n, ckujn £5, for damages for loss of dog shot by defendant, evidence was given on both sides which went to show that the dog was in defendant's paddock with his sheep, and was appparently wprrying them, when defendant came on the scene and fired at the' dog. It ran out on to the road, and defendant again fired and killed it. Plaintiff was non-suited, and solicitors' costs allowed. ■ Mr Strang appeared for plaintiff and Mr Thomson for defendant. \ , lii' tho defended case of T. West (Mr Crombie) v. W. G. 'Richardson (Mr Grey), in which judgment was reserved from last Court day, judgment was given foj* defendant with costs £3 11/. P. Hammond proceeded against T. Taylor on a judgment summons for £1,11/6. Defendant, who did not appear, was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in default to undergo a week's imprisonment. Mr Strang appeared for plaintiff. " . , In the judgment summons case M r Whitehead and Son v. J. Uncles (claim £1 17/), there was no appearance of defendant. He was ordered to pay amount forthwith, with" the alternative of a week's imprisonment. J. Fenwick was charged with having on or about July 16,, 1907, at Croydon Road, stolen a steer valued at £2, the property of J. H. Magee. After hearing the eviderice for the prosecution,, the S.M. dismissed the information. Sergeant Haddrell conducted the prosecution, and Mr Spence defended. Reihana was charged with the theft of a letter containing a cheque for €*> 2/10, the property of J. Healy. This information was also dismissed. Sergt. Haddrell appeared for the police, andMr Spence for accused. v .
