PREMATURE FIRING OF A BIG GUN.

While the huge gun was automatically rising from the pit it suddenly fired. Fortunately the muzzle was clear of the pit walls. Otherwise the shell' would have blown everybody in the pit to fragments. A gunner was severely cut by flying splinters.
