ALMOST A DISASTER.
PREMATURE FIRING OF A BIG GUN.
By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright. (Received April Jl, 10.10 a-m.) SYDNEY, April 11. Tho authorities are inquiring into the premature iirihg of a 9.2-mch gim at tho Heads. While the huge gun was automatically rising from the pit it suddenly fired. Fortunately the muzzle was clear of the pit walls. Otherwise the shell' would have blown everybody in the pit to fragments. A gunner was severely cut by flying splinters.
