OAKURA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) March 27. — A farewell social was held in the hall on Friday night, 20th inst., in honour of the two Miss Bartinst., in honour of tho Misses Bartlett, our . school teacher- and her sister, Lucy is to get married, and Miss Grace is to improve her position, having obtained an appointment in th© Wanganui district. These two ladies had made themselves popular in the district. Miss Grace being a good teacher, the parents did not bke her ti> leave*, but as the school had gohe dowil they could npt blame her for trying to get a better school. Young people from far and near, as well as parents, attended to bid farewell to them. All wished th«m health and happiness for the fultire. Mr F. J. Morris, Chairman of the School Cufcmmittiae, made a few appropriate remarks concerning the guests, saying it would b© many a long day before we Would gst their equal among us again. He : then presented Miss Lucy with a silver tea-pot, and Miss Gra*ce with a gold bangle, as souvenirs from tlie people of tho "district. Mr Morris, on behalf of the two ladieß, thanked the people^ for their present. Three ringing cheers were given for the Misses Bartlett and for Mr Morris. Dancing was kept up till the small hours of the morning. : I hear a farewell social is to be held soon for the Duggan family, who have sold out. I hear Mr J. Pearce, Mr J. Jury, and the Sefton brothers have sold.
