THE .TATSU MARU INCIDENT.

The Chinese merchants of New South have drafted a series of resolu- ' tions fox submission^ to a general meeting of their countrymen. The resolutions assert: "That the action of the Japanese;, m cqn ideation, with the, Tatsu Maru incident is in violation of treaty, rights, and the demand of the Japanese for an apology, hasf heaped indignity upon the Chinese nation which must be resented." ' > > » ■ • ■ "That, this Association, , resolves., to withdraw all support from the Japanese line of mail' steamers in every way, and that all goods. imported and exported by Chinese firms snail be carried by other; lines of steamships trading to the Far East." "That Chinese merchants refuge to transact -business of any description with the Japanese merchants of Sydney, and decline" to handle any kind of ] Japanese goods." , : That all Chinese merchants and traders in Sydney and: other parts *of New South Wales shall be required to j enter into a bond providing a penalty | of • £fiQ for every breach of this agree--inent."
[The. Japanese steamer Tatsu Manr was seized off Macao by the Chinese Customs authorities,' because she was carrying arms and ammunition said to be intended for rebels in China. Japan protested, and the Tatsu Maru was released. The Chinese Minister of Foreign' Affairs apologised for the seizure.]
