WOMAN PURSUED BY WOLVES.

comes from Canada Township, an iso-1 lated neck of, the woodsy J Mrs William Clarks,on, so the story J goes, while riding along a lonely road, near her home,waS suddenly confronted by a fierce catamount, which *£™*Z into the road %6 attack her. The frightened neighing, of. the horse andthe woman* piercmg screams for help, ag she urged her horse at topmost speed, called Irom their lairs in the forest a large number'of other hungry catamounts and fierce wolves, »•*>{*** by famine, who joined m the wild chase/ of almost three miles. Mrs Clarkson's horse was too fleetfooted for the pursuing befcsts, and only one catamount, so the story goes, kept in the-race to the jßnish. This one kept up the chase until Mrs Clarkson, her horse almost dead from exWstion, pulled up at the dooroof her, house. Mrs Clarkson feU fainting from ! the horse just as the catamount leaped into the saddle,, after its prey. The next instant Mrs Clarkson's husband, rifle in hand, came to the door and shot the catamount.
