THE RECREATION GROUNDS.

«, ! The usual monthly meeting of the Board was held last evening at the office of the Chairman. Present: Mr. F. P. Corkill (chairman), S. Percy Smith, C. W. Govett, W. L. x Newman, R. Cock, R. C. Hughes, E. Dockrill, H.. Ford, F. Bellringer, and.E. H. Tribe (hon. sec). In accordance with a notice of motion Mr. S. Percy Smith moved : — "That in order to obviate the confusion that has arisen, that still arises, and will continue to do so in the future, between the names -Recreation Sports Ground and Recreation Grounds proper, it is advisable on this and other grounds that the . name of the present Recreation Grounds be changed for a more euphonious one, and at the same time revert to that by which this part was known j hundreds of years prior to the advent of the first European settlers'; and further, that application be made to. the Minister to exercise the powers conferred by the Act in such cases made and provided, to gazette the groundsnow known as the Recreation Grounds, ]to be known in the future as Pukekura | Park." The motion was ' seconded* by Mr. J Hughes. j Considerable argument ensued both I for and against, the motion. ! Upon being put to the meeting the resolution was carried by five to four : — Ayes : Messrs. Smith, Hughes,' Corkill, Dockrill, and Bellringer. Noes : Messrs. Govett, Cock, Newman, and Ford. i It was resolved that the Board should hold a display of fireworks in the grounds on Boxing night, in aid of the funds of the grounds. Mr.. Smith reported that a commencement liad been made with the extension of the lake • towards Brooklamls. The diversion of the water, from the swamp had been effected. As soon as the swamp was sufficiently dry, a start Would be made with the -excavation. CALF. REARING.
