The duty oh apparel and attiro of any* description has been reduced, to 40 per cent. The preferential duty Is fixed at 45 per cent, (sic) —a reduction of 5 per cent. During tli^ debate, Mr. G. H. Reid urged the taking of a referendum on the fiscal question, but said it should not be taken on the occasion of a general election. y HAY AND. CHAFF DUTY. PERTH, November 7. Exporters express strong surprise at the action of the Federal Parliament in removing the duty oh chaff and hay, whifeh afforded protection to Commonwealth farmers against New Zealand competition. .
