Haldane, Minister of War, to further reduce the staff of the Woolwich Arsenal by 3000 men, making 8000 men the maximum strength in . time of peace, whereas formerly 15,000 were employed. The proposal has caiised indignation at Woolwich. The engineers demanded a strike, but the leaders over-ruled the' proposal. The workmen are now appealing to the Labour members of Parliament.
