QUEENSLAND POLITICS.

United Press Association — By Electric Telegraph . — Copyright. BRISBANE, July 23. Parliament was opened by Commission. The Labour party took their seats on the Opposition cross-benches.

LABOUR PARTY'S POSITION.

(Received July 24, 9.45 a.m.) BRISBANE, July 24.

Three members were nominated for the Speakership of the House. A good deal of personality was imparted into the discussion. Eventually all three candidates were rejected.

At the Premier's suggestion the matter was allowed to stand over for a few hours. Then Mr Leahy was again nominated. The Premier supported him, and he was elected by 45 to 20. The minority consisted of the Labour Party. There are indications of a coalition between the Government and Opposition. The Government appears likel? to throw over the Labour Party.
