MOA ROAD BOARD.

The Moa Road Board met last Saturday. Present: Messrs Trimble (chairman), Chammey, Marsh, Young, Lawrance, and Capper. Advice was received from the County Council that the foreman was attending to tho Waiongona, Bridge on the Hursthouse Road. — The Chairman reported that the bridge had boen shortened and a filling made, but the filling needed metalling.— lt was decided to ask the Council why the metalling had not been done. The Chairman reputed that the accident insurance policy had been renewed. The premium was £24 9s 6d, as against £8 18s last year. Mr A. Kerr claimed £1 10s for carting over and above his Ross Road repairing contract. — Consideration of tho request was deferred pending receipt of the foreman's report. The Chairman read a report signed by Messrs H. Trimble and G. Marsh, the committee set up to discuss with the ratepayers the proposed loan of £3000 for improving the Lincoln, Wortley, Davis, Richmond, and York Roads. The members of the committee stated that they had met the ratepayers on July 13th. The meeting decided that £1000 'should be allocated to that part of the road between Inglewood and the corner of Richmond Road, and tho balance between the different roads interested, according to the ratable value of each road. The committee recommended immediate application to be made to the Treasury for permission to raise the loan, and that the proposed deviation of Lincoln .Road at the hill just outside Inglewood should be carried out, provided favourable terms could be arranged with the owner* of the land. The committee furtner recommended a slight extension of the proposed rating area. — The report was adopted, and steps will be taken to raise the loan. The Land Revenue Department notified that £17 17s 6d, accrued thirds, had been lodged to the credit of tli9 Board's account. The Land Board approved of the scheme of expenditure. . A statement was received that in February and May Mr Baigent carted 133,036 feet of timber, for which the road levy was £11 Is Bd. Messrs Jennings and Okey, Ms.H.R., acknowledged receipt of the Board's recommendatipn regarding proposed local bodies' legislation. Foreman Hoskins reported that Mr Swan, owing to illness, was unable to make much progress with the Mount Egmont and Upland Road contract. Foreman Jones and a labourer were granted an extra shilling a daya for tunnelling on Norfolk Road. It was decided to notify Mr Welham, contractor for stone at Kaimata, that the contract was incomplete and must be finished in a week. The Board decided to call for tenders for the Johns Road contract. The ratepayers of Norfolk Road West asked the Bpard to levy a special rate of id in the £ for one year for the purpose of raising money for repairs. — Request granted. Accounts amounting to £976 4s 8d were passed for payment.
