AUCKLAND, July 23. The scow Surprise is totally wrecked at Ohui. The captain, mate, and two seamen are supposed to be drowned. A fifth man got ashore after being badly knocked about. He is expected to recover.
A Tiniam message states that a black whale measuring between 4u and 50ft. in length was washed upon, the beach a few miles north of Timaru. '
