MAY'S POEMS.
We publish below the winning verse in Mr E. May's competition. There were over 100 competitors. Mr May had the assistance of an outside judge in the final selection of the verse. When the 'first /and >ysecond verses were decided /upon, the writers' names were opened, and the winner proved to be Mrs G. GTordon, Waitara, who receives the prize of £1 Is. . Mr Josiah Leadbeater," Fitzroy, whose verse we also publish, was awarded second place. The verses were:-r- t . . First. , Your tarts' and cookies, Mr May, they . - really l are sublime; If some were here beside me now, I'd have no time for rhyme. Also your bread" is light and good, proclaim to all that taste ; You take your dough just at its time, and ne'er a moment waste. So when one wants 'provisions fine, we to them all will say, Just step along this way, my friends, and call on Mr May. Second. Ingredients pure and used with care, Experience long as'it is rare ; Add skill and cleanliness combined, And in these traits the reason find Why May asserts,, without vain boast, He makes the best and sells the most.
