SHOOTING AT BISLEY.

THE ARMY CHAMPIONSHIP.

A cable message on the 4th install* told us that, shooting for the Army championship at Risloy at 200 yds, 500 yds and 600 yds, Sergeant-Major Wallingford made three consecutive scores, of 100, 102, and 105. Sergeant-Major Instructor Wallingford is acknowledged as one of the greatest shots in England. He has on several occasions been the winner of the Army Championship, or close to it. His best performance was, however, at The Hague, at the great International Meeting there, when practically all the crack shots of the world were gathered, and he stood out as the best. Being an Imperial soldier, he is not allowed to compete for the King's Prize, as well as many other of the best trophies, at Bisley, yet with his contracted chances he did very good work at the last meeting. Some ot Wallingford's scores were : — Graphic (500 yds) 35, Daily Graphic and Alexandra (200 yds) 62, Daily Telegraph and Alexandra (600 yds) 58, Steward Challenge Cup (500 yds) 34, Wantage Rapidfiring (200 yds) 22, Singer (600 yds) 34, Secretary of State for War (800 yds) 44, Duke of Cambridge (900 yds) 41, Imperial Tobacco (1000 yds) 36. In addition to these, Wallingford won the Martin's Cup for the highest aggregate in rapid-firing matches, was 17th in the Elkington Long Range Aggregate, and 78th in the All-Comers' Aggregate. In the United Service Challenge Cup, firing for the Army, he made 90 at 200, 500, and 600 yds. With the'v revolver, Wallingford is no mean shot, as at Bisley last year he won the Revolver Gold Medal, and was second for the Gold Badge. In 1 the Winans Challenge Cup, vt 20 and 50yds, he put up 136, the highest score for the Army, and the third highest individual scote. Other scores with the revolver were : — Deliberate 2nd, long range 3rd, and Jst at vanishing target. Wallingford will be. a member of the British team which visits Australia in October next.
