CARRINGTON ROAD LOAN PROPOSALS.

rTo tho Editor.)

Sir, — On Thursday next, tho ratepayers of the Currington Road district will be given an opportunity of exercising their vote in connection with the present loan proposals, which consist of some £2700 to bo expended over the whole district. As thois3uo at stake over these proposals is of vital importance to tho district, I would claim space to briofly mako roference to their importance. Various property owners on both sides of tho road have entered into negotiations with tho Board for the disposal of their frontage 3 for widening tho road through Vogqltown-, which at present is inadequate to accommodate the constantly increasing traffic through this suburb. If the loan proposals are voted out it will mean that these negotiations must fall through, and when they have to bo again re-opened tho ratepayers may have to pay dearly for deferring what now they have the power to comjilcte. This position, does not apply to tho Vogoltown ond of the district only, as £1000 of the loan is to be spent on the Ratanui Hill, and extending the metal at tho upper end, which is badly needed. The improving of the grade on the Ratamii Hill in only fulfilling a promise of |ong standing to the ratepayers in that locality. As far back as the time when the hill was graded to Vogeltown, they wore promised that when another loan was raised these improvements should bo included in it, and if tho people at tho upper end do not loyally support the loan they will be stultifying themselves, as the improve-

numt to Ratanni Hill will bring their end of the district nearer to town, thus enhancing the value of all property on the road. The position as regards ihe Mill Road has greater advantages than appear on the surface, as it. would at v onco give the west end of the town, including Fraukley and ElKot Roads, a direct and easy communication with our district, as well as a quick and short

route to tho Junction Road, and in these communications the Brooklands Road people will share. With, such advantages now within -the reach of every ratepayer, it woukl"bo. nothing less than a set-toack to the whole district if the poll is not carried on Thursday next. Ratepayers should bear in mind that to, carry the proposals at least three-fifths qf those that go to the poll nre required to vote in their favour.— I am, etc., PROGRESS.
