THE RECREATION CARNIVAL

TKe opening 'cerejpony of the Recreation 'Sports Ground Carniv&l was performed on' ' Boxing' night by the Mayor (Mr 15. Dockrill). Th« Theatre Roj^al,' where the 'bazaar is being held, was. crowded, both floor and gallery, and a very •animated scene was prosekted. The various stalls were well stocked with 'articles ol every description, proving how hard the Laxues' Comiiiittee had laboured on behalf of the scheme, and also the generosity of the public at largr. There were many other attractions in the foody of the hall in addition to the" respective Stalls, including) the -Gipsy camp, shooting gallery, teVegr'aph. office, all sources of attraction to visitors, whilst at frequent intervals there were capital performances pn^tho* stage. The fancy dancing, in • fact, was a special feature of the,, evening's entertainment., and the Amiazon Ztfarch was' greatly admired. 1 "Vocalitems too were contributed. A firstr class orchestral band was in' attendance, and rendered ' select-ions of music. The decorations of 'the various stalls had been executed in a tasteful manner by the Committee, and the effect of 31'r F. Stevens' treatment of the stage v&£ y.erjr pretty.
