WEBB BEATS' STANBURY.
Per Press Association. Wanganui, December 26. The sculling match, .las. Stanbury versus Wm. Webb, of Wanganui, to o k place on the Wanganui Biver this afternoon-, and resisted in a win for Webb. The distance was 1 about three miles, and the purse £4.00. j The men! got away, well together and remained on even terms for the first two or • three hundred yards. Stanbury, who had rowed tie quicker stroke at the start, now considerably teng-thieaxed out, and got 'into Webb's waiter with a I«ad of, a couple of lengths. Going past the Kaiwhaike pah', half a mile down >. the course, Wobb, who was a couple o-f lengths in the i*ear and getting- ihe wash from Stanbury's oar, quicked up, and gained about half a, length. Wobb was rowing as clean as a whistle, while Stanfoury -was splashing i o some extent. This order was (maintained for some distance, Webb being- farced in shore. At. the two mile post Stanbury was stilU leading by a couple of lengths,, but at tl-o half-mile post., Webfo. (quickened again and Stanbury slackened.
