A WARNING JO THE LORDS.

In the House of Commons, the Premier. Sir H. Campbell-Baknernian, ad)drt!ysing a crowded and excited House, in a vehement speech announced , the demise. of ih« Euucation 1 Bill. He accused Mr Baifoux of 'being . chiefly responsible for the failure to arrange aSettlement, and ridiculed tho Lords' mock) heroics respecting tho Commtons' unconstitutional procedure. He declared that it was- impossible to yield to the Xords without pcrpetuafe^ ing and extending the very, system tte Bill was designed to remove. Contittufog, the Premier said that the Government's aim was to secure national, not a denominatAonal, system of education, as distinguished from 1 sectarian Christianity. He warned the Lords that the resources of the Constitution' were not exhausted. 'A way must and would be found to -give effect to the people's will. •• (Tremendous cheers.) The Right Hon. : A. Birrell, President o£ the Board, of Education, denounced Mr Balfour as the wrecker of the Bill. He declared that the country would never tolerat© denominational edu'atdon for long. .
