GERMANY AND THE MARSHALLS.
Sydney August 1. — The Consul-Gene-ral of Germany has received o)fficial advices that the changes desired by Australia ,in the Marshall Islands- will be given effect to on October Ist. r Mr Deakin, Federal Premier, , read a cable in the Federal House, from, the Secretary of State for the Colonies,, announcing receipt. by the British Government of a conciliatory German N<pte, stating that facilities will be g%nted to Messrs Burns, Philp and Cq. to lease land for trading stations at the -Marshall and Caroline Islands.
. i"he Government is- also revising the fiscal legislation of the Marshalls.
The Corinna is to, lay up in Dunedin -to-day for a month to have more hold space insulated and a larger refrigerator placed on board. The Kiwi will take the Corinna's running from South, and ' will return via Westport or Greymouth, but the Union Company will carry Southern •left-go at direct rates by ti* - Takapuna on 15th and 24-fch insta/ \ The Rosamond arrived ai 11 a.m. to-day, and sails when the .weather moderates, for Greymouth, a'Her landdng GO tons of coal and 1050 sleepers.
