A ROWDY MEETING.

The meeting called by Messrs Bedford, 4 Livurenson,, Taylor and' Fisher, 'M.B.E.'s, was -.the rowdiest ever held ■in Dunedru. By seven o'clock people were, finding their way' "to. the Garrison Hall, "which soon ' became, crowded, and the doors had to 1 be shut on hundreds outside. Just on eight o'clock " the large folding doqrs were forced open, though the ' kail* was so full that ,not • many moru could g-et in, but with the 'doors open those outside could, get., an iU ca °^ wha^ was" going ,on inside.: Councillor Brinsley took the chair, and it became evident, early that a section of, tho audience, were determined the speakers should not be heard. 'Many of these were youths. Mr Laurcnson was the first to attempt to speak, but was not allowed to be heard. ,Mr Bedford followed, but Jie " got oven a .worse reception. He x had to keep the meeting going till the arrival of the north express, with the two other incmbers, and lie did this with the utmost sangfroid. He recited bits of Shakespeare and "The Bridge oi Sighs/ About !>JS p.m. 31c.ssrs Taylor and Fisher arrived, and a tremendous hubbub followed. Mr Taylor was 2>artiaMy heard, until ao began. to rofer to the Sncddon voucher, after which his remarks were drowned by shouting, singing of choruses, and other hideous noises. Li^sant Clayton (Independent Opposition) is -definitely announced as a candidate for the Waiapu seat. There' are now ' three candidates, including the present member, Hon. J. Carroll.
