Mar A. "Gray, second master at the Central School, has been appointed headmaster at 1 Opunake. M-r Gray,, who :is very popular here, is to be con^atuiatecr •' on 1 his well-deserved' promotion. • Mr D. McCallum, of Southland, has been appointed manager of the Eltham Bacon Factory.

Mr Harold Ashton was in town to-day making arrangements for the visit of Miss Tittell Brune^axtd (Mr J. C. Williamson's Dramatic Company.

; The death is announced of Mr Reuben Jacklin> who had resided in New Plymouth for many years, arid who was well-known and highly respected. He was a staimch arid • prominent member of the Salvation Ariuy : , from the establishment of the local branch here, and did much to. help on the Army financially. For some time before his death he had been decrepit, aaid his end was known to be near. He leaves several children and grandchildren.

Mr A. K. Blundail, Chief Stock In : spector of the. Wangaoui district, is at present on a. few days' visit to New Plymouth on Departmental business. Miss Wilkes has been elected by tho Dudley" School Committee to lill the vacancy on the teaching staff at that school.
