Taranaki County Council.

The monthly meeting of the Taranaki County Council was held on Monday. Present : Messrs Okey (chair{manj Gray, Andrews, Hill, Hopson, 'and Brown. The bridge carpenter was 1 -r.structed to inspect bridges and culverts near Werokino, and also to erect a shute to the crusher. On the motion of Mr Brown, seconded by Mr Andrews, it was . resolved that Mr Sangster be asked to sign contract within 10 days and that I the matter be referred to the Chairman with power to act. The report of the Moa Eiding foreiman was read. It was decided that i the zigzag be attended to by the fore[man at a cost of £10; that the pick lof the old decking of the Manganui ! bridge be reserved and stacked out of ithe way and that the balance be sold to settlers. The question of raising the Junction Eoad near theManganui river was deferred. I The Waitara foreman's report was read. It was decided to procure planks for bridges as required. , The Omata foreman's report was read. H was decided to aotify Messrs Koss and Morris to clear culvert and drain on the main road ; to employ a man for a month for filling side tracks ; to employ an extra man for crusher site and side tracks, to clear stone away, and to get the Stony Eiver site ready as soon as fossible. The engine driver's report was read, and it was decided to procure a tank. The bridge carpenter's report was read. Mr J. J5. Bennett is to be notified to proceed with the Egatoro filling at the end of January. Twenty-five deck planks ;or the Waiwakaiho bridge were authorised. It was decided to take action against persons driving fast over the Kurapete bridge a t Inglewood. The tender of Messrs Kyngdon and Co. at £36 12s for cutting down hill at Fitzroy was accepted. A letter was received from the Roads Department re the Junction Road grant. It was decided that a letter bo sent explaining the position of the Moa riding and the inability of the Council to maintain the road, and pointing out that it had teen previously agreed that the Government would repair the road as per the estimate of the Roads Engineer, j The question of readjustment of 'boundaries of Oakura and Tataraijmaka districts was deferred to the next meeting. I The Tataraimaka Road Hoard and i Oakura branch of tho Farmers' Union will be informed that -the liot of charitable aid recipients can, be seen and copied at the County office. The Egmont County Council wrote offering to pay amount due by instalments. On the motion of the (/hairman and Mr Gray it was decided to accept the offer, bank rate of interest to be paid on the balance. The Council also regretted that the amount could not be paid at once J j Messrs W. B. Davies and Blanchett (2) waited on tho Council and requested that the petition presented two months ago be given effect to. j It Was resolved that the matter be allowed to stand over until the next meeting of the Council and that the Carrington Road Board in the meantime be notified that the matter will be definitely dealt witL find jf they have any objection they be requested to furnish the same. A division took place, the voting being : — For the motion : The Chairman, Messrs Gray ,and Andrews ; against : Messrs Brown, i Hopson, and Hill. The Chairman gave his casting vote for the motion. | An offer of the Egmont County Council for the old stone crusher was not accepted. It was decided to take steps to 'Collect all rates during the current month. Mr Andrews moved, and Mr Gray seconded that the dog tax be 2s Gd for cattle dogs and 10s for sporting dogs. Mr Hill moved an amendment, which was seconded by Mr. Hopson. , that the taxes be 2s Cd and ss. The jriginal motion was carried. Accounts were passed and the Council rose.
