The Marine Court of- Inquiry founid ihat the Oakland 'was seaworthy ai&l well found, the foundering, being probably caused by the cargo of coal shifting during the heavy' weather. The Birkflgate brought ijhe captain and crew of the wrecked -bartfuc Lotos from Fiji. The captain accounts for the disaster by being out of his ccftirse owing to currents and' the tide Bettmjr the vessel in towards a reef on which she struck at eight o'clock at night, and filled with water in a dangerous position. The crew stood by in boats and the barque capsized fduring the night. The crow then made for Stojva harbour in boat*, arriving there in air exhaustwi condition.
