I On the 3rd inst. the iirst annual j picnic of the Mangorei liifle Club was i held at Mr George Herbert's jjrelty j honiesteatl, where tihe club's rifle range ; is situated. A friendly match Ijetwcoti ; teams picked by tho Captain, Mr -J.j L. Jbboth-tiii, and the Dignity Captain, Mr i<\ Oliver, was that oil" during the day and resulted in a win for tho Captain's team by 20 points. The teams, 13 aside, \veru composed mainly of members of the club supplemented by a few friends residing in the district who were invited to join in the tiport. The competition, which con- j .si.-:ted of live shots each at ranges j 200, 300, and 500 yarjds, commenced at 11 a.m. and thanks to the good management of the hon. sec, Mr Geo. Herbert and the Captains of the respective teams, was carried out witho|ut ,i hittih and concluded shortly after 4 o'clock when the light was still good. Three trophies were presented by the club to the ladies who drew the three highest scorers (the draw taking place before the shooting commenced) and were won by Miss Stevens, Mrs Balsom, and Mrs Oldhatn, who drew respectively L. Ibbotsen, .junr., N. Stephenson, and C. A. Oliver. Duiing the interval at midday a fcflumptiuous; lunoh was provided by the ladies and served "al fresco" ,in a sheltered corner of tho. bush noar the ranj,'e, and was thoroughly appreciated by all.
