The year of grace 1902, which sawthe end of the Boer War, the practical end of the rebellion in the Philippines the restoration of peace in nearly all of China, and the termination of half! a dozen South and Central American revolutions, will probably go down j into time labelled as a year of supreme peace. And yet in 1903 battles are waging in nearly half dozen coun- j tries and war is abroad upon every continent. I
The average l-eader, if asked to name the wars in progress, would very likely stop uncertainly after mentioning the struggle between Britain and natives in Somaliland. But this is not the only war of the day by any means. Here is a little list of the places whereat battles have been going on, either now or recently, with the names of the opposing forces :— Venezuela. Hayti— Three revolutions. The Afghanistan-Indian border—Waziris versus British. Morocco— Revolution to dethrone the Sultan. , Upper Nigeria — Arabs versus ViriLirfh. Somaliland — British versus Sonv.ili.s. Macedonia — Turks versus Maoclondonians and Bulgarians. Sarawak — British native force *vrsus Dyaks. Korea — Korean regulars versus rebels. Sumatra — Dutch versus A'^iinen-.
