DEATHS FROM TYPHOID.

Daniel Weatherall, aged 22 years/ was drowned while bathing near Roxburgh. ,He jumped into a pond made . by the Teviot dredge, about 20 feet across, and/, when . half-way across -threw up his Bands and sank. A young man named John Grani, who .went to the' rescue, was- caught round itie neck by Weatherall and, pulledunder the water, but managed to free himself.. Miss Alice Redwood, a much esteemed resident, aged 21, xlied at the hospital at ten 1 to-night from the effects of ".. a bicycle . accident. While riding in the main street and trying to avoid, a -horse; she lost /control of her. bicycle and fell heavily on ,her head, sustaining a severe concussion. Invercargill, March 2 At the inquest to-day, on the body of Henry "Smith, an engine drivei-, who .was' killed in a flaxmill at Waimahaka, it was shown that Smith, while loosely clothed, was shifting a belt over on a pulley, when *the shaft key caught his clothing and he was whirled round, his feet striking ;.the joists with! such force as to displace the body, which was thrown from the shaft stripped to the socks. Smith . died soon after. "A verdict of accidental death was returned. Deceased v had <, been : warned against wearing loose clothing.
