A probationer driver, on being finally accepted for the service as driver, will receive pay at the rate of 6/ aday until completion of three years' service, when his pay will' be increased to 6/6 per day, conditionally on his keeping himself efficient. The following substituted regulations for the t Permanent .Militia are gazetted :t1. Applicants for enlietment in the "Permanent Force must send in an application on proper form to the Officer Commanding Permanent Force, Wellington, together with a medical, inspection form, duly filled in and certified to by a medical practitioner; also two certificates as to character, one of which must be from a Justice of the Peace or a clergyman. If ! the applicant is a Volunteer, one of the '-haracter-certificates must be from the officer commanding, the corps in 1 which he is serving. 1 2. A candidate who. has been selected for enlistment must report Mmself for attestation at the 'Alexandra ' Military Depot, Wellington, 'within fourteen days from ' the date 'specified in the notice which will be sent' to him. Should he fail .to do so -he will „ be held to have forfeited ih© appointment, excepting in cases of certified sickness. If fit for service within' three months he becomes eligible for the first subsequent vacancy. • 3. The standard' <for recruits in the Permanent Force is as follows :—: — No. 1 Company, Artillery—Guni ners: Height sft 9in minimum; chest 36in full inspiration. ' 1 Inteuding recruits, must' be willing to undergo vaccination, or revaccination if necessary. 4. A recruit will be 911 probation for his first six month's service, and during that period must pass an examination in drills, on ihe result of which his final acceptance for the service will depend. During this period of 'probation his pay will be at the rate of 4/6 per day. , 5. A probationer gunner (or sapper) on being finally accepted for the service, will be rated as second-class engineer (or sapper), and will be paid 'at the rate of 5/6 per day until he completes three years' service, when his pay will be incioased to 6/ per day, provided he is found by examination to be .proficient in his duties.
