DREDGE

As the dredge Thomas *. King had to be beached* during- the past year for the purpose of putting the new boilers on' board, advantage was taken of the occasion to give the boat a thorough overhaul ; and this occupied a period of three months, but despite the great delay thus caused, 103,230 cubic yards o£ sand were removed from the harbour during 1 the' year at a , cost of 4.93 d per yard, in-, eluding the cost of repairs, .which accounted for half of the " expenditure. No further large expenditure on , the dredge is anticipated for some time, a<* the. boat is now in excellent .order. It is expected that the cost of removing^ sand from the harbour during the coming year will be less than on any previous occasion. Table of sand removals since 1892 :— •
