CRICKET.

In a letter in another column Mj S. Hill urges cricketers to take advantage of the revival of interest in this best of all games to securo a coach, as other associations liavp done. The idea is a good one, worthy of boing- taken up by cricketers and lovers of the game in the town and neighbourhood. Nor should it be at all difficult of accomplishment, for there are plenty of really good cricketers to be obtained at a moderate cost, the usual practice being to find some other employment for them during the winter months. Since the • visit of Lord llawke's team the general public have shown a much keener interest in the game than (formerly, and active jcrickpters may look for a uiore<geuer|ous support than, they have hitherto ■received. This revival of interest is [general throughout the' colony, and is likely to result in more" frequent interchanges of visits of 'representative teams within the colony and with Australian i earns. If Taranaki is to hold the same j>tace in *the : cricket field as it has done in the" "winter game of football .some greater 'efforts must be , mado to- improve the play of its cricketers. A good coach will do more in this direction in a season than a whole series of club matches. Another matter which needs attention is the securing of a better -ground. The Recreation Ground- field is too small and the- light is a bad one. It ■serves very. well, for . practice, but will never make ' a first-class ground, and it will be .well for those interested to look around for a, moi|e' suitable piace far matches. ~ ' .
