Scholfield clerk in the Public Works Office, wh<was found drowned in the Heathcott River, a note found ou deceased's bod\ was read. It was addressed to Mr Usher, District Engineer, and Btated that do ceased's accounts were straight on 31st March; bub over £300 had disappeared during the lloyal visit. He could not account for this. All he knew was thit he did not havo the money. Ho had lived cleanly aud carefully, and had denied his family and himsolf all amusements, sold his furniture, aud paid off as much as possible- aud now he paid tho last peinlty of overwork and strain.
